Building Web Site Traffic:
Two Steps To Effective Online Marketing

Most new businesses that venture online experience mass confusion when it comes to promoting their company. They tend to think that, once their Web site goes live, they'll be flooded with calls from interested customers. A Web site requires support and maintenance as does any department within a company. Within your marketing plan, there should be attention paid to your online efforts in two areas: SEO and SEM.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) comprise the two main aspects of online marketing. Beginning with SEO, a Web site should be designed with optimization in mind. This includes the written copy, graphics and coding within the Web site itself. Supplemental support can include press releases, forum posts, blogs and other cross promotional tactics. Since SEO can take up to 6 months to produce results, you'll want to consider looking at a paid promotional campaign as a supplement to your SEO efforts.

Most new online businesses forget to set aside a budget for Search Engine Marketing. Google, Yahoo! and MSN all provide some kind of paid ad placement (PPC, Adwords, Ad Center, etc.) within their search listings. These tend to be the ads that you see highlighted at the top or side of the search results page. Again, content comes into play, so be specific in choosing the keyword phrases for which you want placement. Spend a little time doing research in your field to determine what your potential customers are interested in purchasing and what phrases they are typing into the search box in order to find your product or service.

Lastly, make sure you find a reliable company that will market your Web site effectively. The SEO industry suffered early on from unscrupulous companies guaranteeing "Top Ten" results immediately. Stay away from these companies, unless they also specify combining SEO with SEM in some form or another. For the best results, develop a solid marketing plan in conjunction with your Web site design.

Don't despair when you build a Web site and don't immediately receive a huge number of responses. Paying attention to the two step approach plays a crucial role in generating traffic. Working with a company such as Cenicola-Helvin Enterprises ensures that your Web site gets the necessary attention to better SEO and SEM tactics.
