The First 100 Days

(04/29/2009) Jeff R. Helvin

The First 100 Days

"Change is good - you go first!"
- Graffiti

This quote seemed appropriate as today marks the 100th day of Barack Obama's presidency and the new administration. Not to worry, I don't plan to push my political beliefs on my readers, after all I'm blogging for balance which means every political interest has a place. However, the first 100 days of a new administration is bound to bring change, especially when the primary party of that administration changes. As part of the general voting public, I certainly noticed the call for change from both parties running for office, but Barack Obama made it a staple of his campaign and change certainly happened, starting with him being elected as the first African-American President of the United States.

As Americans, I feel it is only fair for us to demand that the one who promotes change be the first to implement change. Starting with his campaign for presidency, change has been the name of Obama's game. Much success of his campaign is contributed to the use of the Internet marketing, social networking, and other technological advancements that have been underutilized up to this point. I can't imagine that any future presidential elections won't heavily rely on these technologies to help promote their agenda, which means that his campaign's successful use of this medium has brought change.

As with any political discussion, there are sure to be reports on both sides determining whether President Barack Obama's first 100 days have been "successful" or not, but it seems pretty apparent that there has been change. Only time will tell whether the change will result in good or bad for our nation, but it's change nonetheless.
