Where Does the Time Go?

Where Does the Time Go?

"You can't please everybody if you're going to make a difference in this world."
- Melvin Chapman

Last week, while engaging in the usual office banter, I was unknowingly provoked to say something that made a lot of sense after it came out. I found myself talking about how the time was flying by, and a coworker said "I know, where does the time go?" Without even thinking about it, I quickly said "... to everybody else."

There's much to be said about the subject of time. I've heard everything from "there's not enough time in the day" to "we've got all the time in the world!" So which one is it? I have to admit, I'm guilty of saying both, but the truth of the matter is each one of us is given the same 24 hours in a day - it's how we choose to spend each of those hours that can make all the difference in the world.

Don't get me wrong, some hours are easier to manage than others, and I may know that better than most! With a focus in operations, my position in business requires me to be involved with all departments and employees, in addition to client interaction and support. It's not unusual for me to be pulled in every direction throughout the course of a day, which means I'm giving my time to everyone that needs it, and often neglecting to provide myself enough time to finish the items on my own list!

If you find yourself in the same position, in business or in life, you may quickly realize that the only person that can change that is you! As the quote above says, you can't please everybody, so the next time you feel like you don't have enough time to do what you want to do, take some of your time back and make it count!
