Adapt and Readapt

(04/27/2011) Jeff R. Helvin

Adapt and Readapt

"In a moving world, readaptation is the price of longevity."
- George Santayana

There's no doubt that the times have changed. Pick a date in the not-so-recent past, maybe one from your parents' era, and just about any thing you look at - family values, technology, up and coming businesses, etc. - is significantly different than what it used to be. Sure, cars still typically have four wheels and can get you from point A to point B, but how they're made, what they're made of, what fuel they use to run, etc. are all different than it used to be. Our world is constantly moving, and in order to keep up, we must readapt ourselves time and time again, or else we get left in a world that no longer exists.

Businesses still run off many of the same principles that worked long ago. You still need such things as a great product, a healthy balance sheet, great employees and great customer service to compete in this world of opportunity. Sure there's been a few flash in the pans along the way, but businesses that have longevity are ones that have readapted time and time again to keep up with the changing times. BannerView.com is no exception. Twelve years ago we had a little different idea about what we'd be doing today, but as the times change, so does our business plan. Our core efforts remain the same, to build great websites that earn recognition, respect and rewards, however we've expanded our offerings with such things as Website Optimization, streamlined our development with our BannerOS Website Management Platform, and expanded our reach with our website leasing options.

Our personal lives are really no different. With every new relationship, every new job, every new city or residence we have to readapt to the environment around us. Those who resist this adaptation are the ones that have the most difficult time with the changing world we live in, and the added stress from the struggle just may affect the longevity of their own lives!

Take a good long look at the environments in which you currently work and live. Are they the same as they used to be? If not, and you want longevity with either, or both, you may need to readapt yourself to the current environment, then be willing to do it again and again.
