It's Game Time!

"To find an open road, have an open mind."
- John Towne

On the journey we call life, we are constantly encountering forks in the road in which we're forced to make decisions about what direction to go. These "forks" often come up when making decisions regarding your career, education, family and a myriad of other aspects in life. So what kind of frame of mind are you in when approaching these forks in the road? Are you approaching at 100mph and have to make a quick decision, hoping you made the right one, or do you have an open mind and plenty of time to think your decision through, feeling confident that you've chosen the right path?

It's interesting to think about the many things we face on a daily basis throughout life. We often overlook what may seem like small encounters that don't have an immediate effect on the outcome of our day. How about the drive to and from work everyday? Or how about the people you interact with in passing, or on a regular basis? When you're so focussed on, and stressed out about, the everyday grind, you may be not be making the most out of the everyday things, let alone once in a lifetime opportunities that may pass us by without even knowing it. There could be news on the morning radio station that you wouldn't have wanted to miss, or maybe someone you interacted with could have provided a golden opportunity in business or in life. The point is if you don't have an open mind, you may not find an open road to travel, which could very well be an open road to success!

So what's the key to clearing your mind? According to an article I recently read from USAToday.com titled "Experts say play time can relieve stress in bad times," it's all about playing. Everyone has a different idea of what playing is, but for me it's playing baseball. I'm in a baseball league and playing baseball is a great way for me to balance the stressful days of work with a way to clear my minds on the weekend. After going out and being competitive each Sunday, I feel ready to hit the work week with an open mind and see where the open road takes me.
