Establishing Effective Social Communication

Establishing Effective Social Communication

Communication is key when it comes to your social sites. One wrong comment can tarnish your brand and poorly effect your company’s image. Check through the following suggestions and make sure you’re communicating the most effective way with your audience.

Syntax

Keeping your sentences as short as possible has proven to drive your social engagement up. To be exact, posts with 80 characters or less drive your engagement up by 27%. It allows room on twitter for people to retweet and add comments, and keeps interest on other social channels. Long paragraphs often deter people from wanting to read the entire post and aggravates mobile users because they have to scroll through a lot of it on their feed. Keep it simple, direct, and short.

Hyperlinks

Shorten the links that you post. Studies have found that shorter links are clicked more often. In addition, it gives you more room/character space to say what’s on your mind within the post. Try implementing this practice and see if your click through rates improve. It did for us.

Professionalism

Your social posts should remain professional no matter what. Think of your social channels as your customer service rep. For a lot of clients, it’s the first thing they interact with in regards to the company. If people make judgements within 7 seconds of meeting a person, think about what 7 seconds worth of scanning your page will return. Your social pages are a direct reflection of your company’s culture, values, and customer service quality.

Make sure you cater to your audience through posting industry specific material. Lighthearted professional jokes, feel-good stories, or other out of industry posts are great every now and then. Keep your lingo in proper english so as not to drive away certain demographics. Always double check before you post to catch any misspellings or grammatical errors.

Clear Communication

Have someone else check over posts before submitting them if they include intricate information. Sometimes what you believe is coming across clearly is very confusing to others. Try to break down details into simplistic straightforward sentences and link up to other difficult items. If all else fails, a picture is worth a 1,000 words. Post an image or video to emphasize your subject matter. Media posts are proven to increase interactions by 39%.

Hashtag

In order to be most effective in social media it is important to use the hashtag. Whenever you post, hashtag the relevant key words. If you are trying to post about your latest product, make sure to be extra specific. Don’t just post here’s our latest product.

Try to implement those photos or videos and links we spoke of earlier, but also list the product with a hashtag. For example, “Come stop by to see our #new shipment of #sneakers.” This way anyone searching for sneakers or new comes across your post with an image or link. The hashtags really serve to enhance your audience reach. Don’t over-hashtag your post. Most effective are posts with 2 (21% higher engagement), once you go over 2 it begins to deter your followers from the content (17% drop in engagement). This is most likely because a couple shows you are trying to get relevant matter to those searching where as multiple hashtags throughout comes across as needy and appears as though you are just trying to pop up in as many search feeds as you can.

Conclusion

Hope these tips help you improve your communication through your social sites. Remember, lots of media, short syntax, tiny links, and include those hashtags!
