Email Settings for Any System

The Difference Between POP and IMAP

POP downloads your emails to your device and removes them from the server, but those emails are only viewable on that one device. If you're trying to prevent web hosting storage overages, this may be the better option since it uses less space on the server. Many email programs offer a feature that lets you keep a copy of the email on the server, but if you use this option then you will not be saving web hosting storage space.

IMAP allows you to manage your email from any device since emails stay on the server. IMAP uses more web hosting storage space which could lead to storage overages, so if you use IMAP we recommend periodically archiving email to a specific device by moving email to local folders. This will permanently remove those emails from the server and reduce space usage, but those emails will only be available from that specific device.
