I recently moved to Nevada from North Dakota. Like most, I was not originally from the state and went for the opportunity to work in the oil industry. It was a life changing experience. I was not there very long compared to some, though I did my share of black ice spins on Highway 2 in the unforgiving cold at 5 A.M.

That was just a Tuesday.

I wanted to make money, get into a comfortable position in a large company, and live the dream! That went to bust. I went from being swamped at 6 A.M. to having nothing to do the next day. All the job offers were now gone and people were becoming unemployed.

It was worst case scenario. I watched people go through the Kugler-Ross model. My friend and I made jokes on which stage they were at any given time. Denial and anger were the hardest for most to overcome.

When a door closes a window opens, though it is never easy. I miss the state. It grew on me and made me appreciate warm climates. I met great people which made the experience well worth it.

However, it was my time to move on. Most of the people I knew stayed or went to Colorado. I also considered this, but chose to call Las Vegas my new home. I came here not knowing anyone so it was a bit difficult at first. Now I work in IT and am writing a blog about it.
