Ding Dong... Future's Here!

Ding Dong... Future's Here!

"The future has a way of arriving unannounced."
- George F. Will

The trials and tribulations of life and business have a way of sneaking up on you sometimes. In some cases, it can be disguised as someone new that has entered the equation or someone old that has exited, and in other cases it can be a bigger picture decision that you have little control over; such as the types of decisions that are made by our government. Regardless of the instigator, it just may be that the future has just arrived unannounced.

Over the years, running a business has provided no lack of surprises, good and bad. What we often don't realize at the time is the kind of impact it will have long term, and whether or not we're staring the future of the business right in the face at that moment. The tricky part is that you'll never really know, but don't be surprised when you realize that the future just arrived unannounced. Decisions that have been made long ago have likely shaped the future in which you're headed.

As usual, the same applies to your personal life. Situations come up in life all the time, some good and some bad; how you handle those situations are ultimately shaping your future. Sometimes situations provide opportunities, which can be presented in a way that is less than ideal, such as a job change, a governmental budget decision, or any of many unfortunate circumstances that can come up in life. Before you know it, your future may have just arrived unannounced, and all you can do is face it and push ahead.

There are some parts of your future you can control and others that you can't, but when you realize that the future has arrived unannounced, it's up to you on how you greet it.
