Make It Happen

Make It Happen

"Ideas have a short shelf life. You must act on them before the expiration date."
- John C. Maxwell

There is rarely a shortage of ideas, but often a shortage of action. This shortage of action can be from any number of excuses or circumstances. When it comes down to it, if you want to see an idea come to fruition, it's up to you to make it happen!

Motivated and active businesses may suffer the most from not being able to turn an idea into an action. In our business, we constantly come up with ideas, good and bad, but struggle to implement many of them due to the lack of manpower to see them through. As an operations guy, I'm already in the middle of just about everything that's going on in our business and there are plenty of ideas in every department that our talented staff is coming up with, along with my own ideas! When we get busy, however, it's extremely difficult to dedicate the necessary time and resources to turn an idea into action. It's important to identify the impact each idea may have in your business and make sure they don't get neglected by getting everyone on the same page with a common goal to make it happen.

In our personal lives, there are similar circumstances surrounding not turning an idea into an action. Much of what we do personally effects others in our lives, so just because we think we may have a great idea, if the others around you don't subscribe to that great idea it may be difficult to make it anything more than just that, an idea.

Ideas come in many difference shapes and sizes, and being just an "idea guy" probably won't get you far if you can't develop a plan to turn it into an action; even if that plan is to get someone else to do it for you! It isn't always us that can perform the action it requires to make it happen, but it's up to us to see that it just happens.
