Time to Reorganize?

(05/25/2011) Jeff R. Helvin

Time to Reorganize?

"Reorganization is the permanent condition of a healthy organization."
- Roy Ash

I can remember early on in our business making a comment to another professional that the company was "reorganizing," only to have my business partner explain to me that I may have made it sound like we weren't doing well, giving the impression that we had to change what we set out to do because we weren't successful with the original plan. It's been since then that I choose my words more carefully in order to avoid any misconceptions about the condition of our business, but when it comes right down to it, it's our ability to continually reorganize that has helped us to be successful. Of course today I would say we're "evolving," rather than "reorganizing," but the truth remains that our organization is healthy because we continue to "evolve" as does the world around us.

Much is the same in our every day personal lives. There's no telling what curve balls life will throw our way, so it's important that we're able to reorganize at each stage of our lives and push forward with a new direction when necessary. I've formulated many ideals growing up, mostly by observing the people and relationships around me, learning what to do as well as what not to do! I'm fortunate to say I've achieved many of my ideals, such as buying a home before getting married, getting married before having children, etc., but it certainly didn't all happen the way I may have expected it. Each step of the way, it's important to adjust your ideals and take advantage of opportunities that come your way. Trying to force your ideals to happen can produce the opposite result, possibly pushing you further and further away from ever achieving them.

Seeing the growth of our company over the years has taught me how to adjust and react to the environments around me. Creating a permanent position of reorganization has helped me evolve into the life I set out to create.
