Which Social Network is Best for Your Business?

With social media being the latest and greatest way to engage with your market, it is essential to figure out what demographics your company is targeting. Certain social platforms appeal more to specific genders, ages, income levels, etc. and it is essential you are marketing at minimum through one of the platforms that best attracts your ideal clients. Here we will investigate and graphically depict which platforms are ideal for the different types of customers.

Valtec shows that while overall, females are more popular across social platforms, certain ones appeal more to men over women. Google+ has a strong male affiliation, while YouTube and LinkedIn both carry a 54% male user base. These could be good outlets to seek out if your target market is primarily males. Pinterest has a 80%+ female membership. It is an excellent source to market through if you are looking to appeal to women.

Age Based Research

Globalwebindex shows that between 2012 and 2013, the top age group in growth of active users were those individuals between 35 to 44 years of age. Icrossing displays that Facebook’s primary age group is between 15 and 34 years old.  35-44 year olds followed closely behind. Twitter appeals mostly to 15-34 year olds also. Google+ is most popular amongst 25 to 34 year olds. LinkedIn attracts 25 to 44 year olds. Pinterest is typically trendy for 26 to 54 year olds. Depending on what age group you are trying to reach, you could cater your campaigns to specific social sites.

Time Spent Research

If you’re looking for where users spend the most time, Facebook is still king. According to Tent Social, average users spend 405 min/month with the only closest follower being Pinterest at 89 min/month. Twitter outranks LinkedIn, but both are about even around 20 min/month.

Facebook and Twitter are both great resources for social customer service. While more people have Facebook accounts, Twitter has been getting very popular for customer service compliments, complaints, shout outs, and suggestions. Make sure to stay on top of client concerns, 95% of Facebook wall posts are NOT answered by brands. This is an astonishing statistic. Make sure you keep up communication and solve problems with your followers and fans. It is important for your company image.
