Make Sure to Make Time... for Yourself

Make Sure to Make Time... for Yourself

"While we are postponing, life speeds by."
- Seneca

I can't believe it's almost September already! As usual, this year feels like it is flying by, and for most of us, it probably is. As the quote above says, life is speeding by! And while I would like to believe that I'm not "postponing" anything in particular, I can easily pick a few things in both my professional and personal life that I planned to see happen this year, yet no progress has been made toward them at all. There's no doubt that in life, some people have it "easier" than others, no matter what you're referring to, and naturally some people have it harder. It's up to you to put the right things in place to set yourself up for the best chance of success. In my case, time is the magic ingredient that always seems to missing.

When running a successful and active business, time is hard to come by. There are new customers that need my time, existing customers that need my time, employees that need my time, co-executives that need my time and naturally the general business items that take time. With that realization, it's no wonder that there are things in my business that I expected to see by now that I haven't applied any time toward to make happen. Sometimes we're fortunate enough to have someone else carry out an idea and therefore we don't need much time ourselves to see it come to fruition, but sometimes it just takes "you" to make it happen! Although I've yet to really dig in to my original goals for this year, I've been scheduling small blocks of time out of the office to work on what I need to work on to keep up. Maybe after doing that a few more times, I'll be able to make time to carry out my original plans.

The same applies in your personal life. I'm fortunate enough to be on a similar work schedule as my fiance, so we're able to establish a good rhythm and apply teamwork to most of the daily tasks that come about, but after a few months I find myself craving some time to myself. Not time away from her, necessarily, like being out with the boys or having a one on one lunch with someone else, but literally time to myself, when nobody else is around. It's natural that not all initiatives one takes are shared by everyone in their lives, so having that alone time will allow you to do what YOU want. There have been many exciting changes and challenges throughout the year in my life, which looking back, has ultimately postponed my own initiatives. I can't say that I would trade "what has happened" with "what could have happened," but what if I can have both in my life? Making time for myself allows me to take life as it comes, but also helps me direct life where I want it to go.

Make a point right now to make some time for yourself. Whether it's to catch up on things at work, or to start something you "haven't had time" to start in your personal life. Making time for yourself will give you a new perspective on life, and a renewed energy that will have a lasting effect on your everyday life.
