Put the Means In Motion

Put the Means In Motion

"Envisioning the end is enough to put the means in motion."
- Dorothea Brande

At the end of last year, I wrote a blog titled Act Boldly, which described how if we put ideas in motion that we may be able to achieve more than we originally anticipated. I realized, after reading this quote, that a lot of that had to do with what I was envisioning in the end. The idea of family, stability and progress are three very important things to me, and envisioning how that looked 20 years down the road helped me to set it all in motion. Family, stability and progress may all be translated differently for each person, but these terms work for me both personally and professionally.

In professional terms, family is the personnel we've put together over the last 12 years, as well as long-standing customers that mean a lot more than the revenue they bring to my company. We've been through many ups and downs while helping hold each other up over the years. This kind of family helps build stability, which helps push progress. In the beginning, the business was always intended to grow beyond any personal lifestyle, so envisioning that outcome is what drives the progress made over the years. Many might argue there's never much stability in running your own business as things can change dramatically in a short amount of time, but with the progress made and the family accumulated, I feel about as close to stable as one can get.

In my personal life, I envisioned what many Americans have been brought up to strive for - family, home ownership and a good career. For me, just about all of this is coming to fruition in 2011. I've mentioned before that I bought my first house and was married days later to kick off the new year. Since then, we've gotten a puppy, had our first outside investment in BannerView.com and have a baby girl on the way! What more could one ask for?! I'm well on my way to what I envisioned, all due to envisioning it in the first place.

Unfortunately there are many people that end up in a place or situation that they don't want to be in, and often wonder how they got there in the first place. If you can envision the outcome you wish to achieve, the means will be set in motion and you can be well on your way!
