Usually, when you tell someone not to do something, the first thing they do is just the opposite. If you found yourself intrigued by being told "no," then this headline probably captured your attention. This is not a trick, but just a little reverse psychology in action.
Below are 10 Great Website Tips to Being Successful Online:
1) Just have anyone build your website
A lot of people can design websites. Just ask your niece or nephew, or heck, just buy a book and learn to build your own website. Starting your business was easy so running it is probably just as easy. Who needs expensive professionals when you can get everything you need for next to nothing?
2) Never update your website
Who cares about fresh content? Post what you know at the time of building your website and live worry free knowing you never have to look at it again.
3) Make your contact information hard to find
After all, you are busy running your business. The last thing you want are customers calling, emailing or stopping by your place of business so that they can easily interrupt you. Plus, if they really want to do business with you, then they should at least spend some time looking for your contact information so definitely don't post your address or phone number in an easy to find place.
4) Never tell customers what you want them to do
If you haven't already learned to make your contact information hard to find, then you should certainly not tell your customers what you want them to do. "Call now," "email us today" or "click to buy" might make it so you actually have to do work. Plus, who wants to be seen like a pushy salesman?
5) Don't post anything informative
Your information is valuable so why would you want to give it away for free? People are always searching the Internet for free information. Let someone else waste their time giving it away.
6) Being found in the natural (organic) results on the search engines is overrated and a waste of time
Why bother trying to get listed on the search engines under the non paid section? You can just pay per click for keywords and get guaranteed placement in the sponsored results. How much could it cost anyway?
7) Working hard to be successful online is for suckers
Who wants to work hard, after all, isn't the Internet supposed to make our lives easier? Spending time making sure your content is up to date, your website can be found on the search engines and answering inquiries from bothersome customers is hard work left to suckers who have nothing better to do.
8) Don't get a website, just use Social Media
Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Linked In are all free so why spend time and money on building a website? Since just about everyone is using them, I'll just let the social media sites own all my content and make them responsible to process my transactions. Besides, they are funded by millions of dollars in venture capital. It's not like any of them will fail or are likely to change their policies or be sold. My business reputation and brand is perfectly safe with them.
9) Don't bother building a strong online brand
With the recession huge brands that are many years old are going under or filing for bankruptcy. The consumer has lost trust in brands so building a consistent and strong online brand is totally last year. Don't waste time making sure your branding is consistent across your website, your email marketing messages or your blog. It doesn't matter if your brand gets lost throughout your online experience because no one cares about your brand anyway.
10) Many vendors are better than one single vendor as long as you're getting the cheapest price
You can pick a website from one vendor, email marketing services from another vendor, content management from another vendor, web hosting from yet another and they should all work together. When there's a problem, just start calling each of them and eventually one of them will help you fix it. If you are getting the cheapest price, why worry about saving time by dealing with a single company that can solve all your problems?
BONUS TIP: Prper speling isn't that impotant
Who reads websites anyway? With youtube, flash and cool graphics, no one is going to read what you put on your website. If you forget to spell check your website copy, no worries as it's not going to be read. Oh, and what's the deal with their, there and they're. Nobody cares if you aren't sure which "there" goes "where."
Okay, so the above list should have been called the 10 Worst Website Tips to Being Successful Online. However, since most people would rather give bad advice then listen to good advice you don't have to worry about people taking the above website advice or at the worst (best) case scenario they will take the advice and do just the opposite.
