If the title of this blog entry looks a little ridiculous, you're right. However, in the competitive field of website design in Las Vegas, you might be surprised to learn that we've previously never ranked high in the search results for any of the various terms that people might use to find a web designer where we're headquartered.
You might think that it's hypocritical for a company that offers Website Optimization services along with Web Design not to rank for these highly competitive Las Vegas related keywords. What you might not know is that this was done purposely.
Here's 4 Reasons Why We Don't Rank High for Keywords Related to Las Vegas Website Design:
1) Our Business Model is Bigger than Only Las Vegas - Las Vegas is a great place to do business. The state of Nevada has a great tax climate in spite of economic challenges facing the state budget compared to other western states. The weather is pretty good year-round with 300 days of sunshine keeping the valley warm. It's a dynamic city with something always exciting happening such as a new hotel opening or celebrity sightings. In addition, there are no natural disasters making it a great place for a data center. With these advantages, there's no reason why not to be headquartered in Las Vegas. All that said, Las Vegas is simply one market. We made the decision to not limit ourselves to only doing business in Las Vegas and a significant portion of our business is outside of the city.
With that in mind, it made sense to go after a broad range of small and medium sized businesses on a national level and not limit our market potential. That's why our messaging has never really been targeted nor speaks specifically to Las Vegas based businesses because it doesn't matter where your company is located, we can Give Your Website the BannerView!
2) Our Brand is More Diverse than Las Vegas - If we were to use Las Vegas related branding throughout our advertising message, it has the potential to pigeon hole us into a reputation of only catering to entertainment, casino and nightclub related businesses. While we do have customers in those industries, they are only a small part of our overall customer makeup. One thing we will do is not sacrifice our brand simply for search engine optimization purposes. In addition, we take pride that we aren't grouped in with the rest of the pack.
3) We'll Reach the Local Market by Default - We are very active in the local community with organizations like TMA Nevada and the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. By virtue, this gives us the opportunity to meet local businesses and network with those that need our services. Most of the business we get locally is earned via our local offline advertising. This gives us the opportunity to free up our online advertising to focus on businesses we can't reach in person.
4) We Haven't Given it Much Effort - As mentioned in point #3, we haven't focused our online SEO efforts specifically on Las Vegas. Few mentions of our location are listed throughout our site, nor have we written in our blog articles much about Las Vegas. Plus many of our competitors use location specific keywords when referencing their website via links. Instead, we reference our tagline because we felt our brand's message was more important than the location of our headquarters. Additionally, Web design is only one piece of a complete eBusiness puzzle so focusing on it combined with location doesn't really fit our true purpose of fulfilling our customer's entire Web presence needs.
With those points taken, there's still reason for wanting to be listed high for keywords related to Las Vegas Website Design. On Google alone, there was an average of over 68,000 searches from just the top 5 keywords related to Las Vegas and Website Design. They breakdown as such:
More than likely, this blog entry will provide us increased rankings for Las Vegas related Web design searches because of the keyword density of Las Vegas throughout the article and the popularity of this blog on search engines such as Google and Bing. Chances are, this page will result in it being the most highly trafficked link from those search engines in relation to all keyword phrases containing "Las Vegas" throughout this website.
A few other strategies are being implemented in addition to this blog article, but it will take 3 to 6 months to see if they are delivering results. In the meantime, our traditional marketing into the local market will continue.
