1. Write down your goal, then visualize it

Whatever works for you, make sure you can access it easily. You will also want to visualize yourself once the goal is reached. How will you react once you land the job, lose the weight or hit your profit goal? What will you do after? Painting the image in your head makes the end result more realistic and thus more achievable.
   
   
2. Break down a larger goal into easier, smaller goals
   Think big! Do not be intimidated by a large goal that you fear cannot be reached or just seems too hard. Visualize the larger goal, then break it down into more manageable mini goals. This will keep you on the right path and help you from feeling overwhelmed or defeated before you even begin.
   
   
3. Anticipate roadblocks and changes
   Reaching a goal is virtually never completed in a straight line. There will be setbacks. Keeping that in mind will help you bounce back much quicker if and when you are blindsided. This might be the toughest part of staying motivated. When you hit your first obstacle or setback, realize this was bound to happen. It's ok. Strategize and push forward. If you hold yourself accountable or enlist a partner to check in on you, you’re more likely to stay positive and not quit.
   
   
5. Decide if you need to include others to help
   Even if you can accomplish your goals on your own, it might be a good idea to include another as a witness to your plan. Involve someone you trust who may also be able to contribute, if needed. Maybe they have experience in the field of work you are doing or have trained for the marathon you are now training for. Whatever the case may be, make sure they are positive people! You don't want to include people who are a drain on your energy. You need someone who can be a positive outlet, can offer valuable insight and the ability to cheer you on. Speaking to someone also can be a way to hold yourself accountable. Once you’ve stated your goal publicly, you don't want to speak to them at a later date having achieved no results!
   
   
6. Remind yourself why you set the goal in the first place
   Do periodic "check-ins" with yourself. Remind yourself of the value brought to you by reaching your goal. If it's monetary, will it help you grow your business or provide a better life for your family? If it's for your health, will it improve your quality of life? Reminding yourself often of the reason for your personal journey is important in keeping your eye on the prize.
