Breakthrough to Success

Breakthrough to Success

"All breakthroughs begin with a change in beliefs."
- Michael Nolan

I was recently invited to attend, with a limited group of professionals, a roundtable discussion with University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin' Rebels head basketball coach Lon Kruger. The theme of this discussion revolved around a book that was co-written by Lon Kruger called The X's and O's of Success. Lon is one of only five coaches to take 4 different teams to the men's NCAA basketball tournament and much of his success can be attributed to the belief structure that's detailed in his book, which he taught to all of his players. Ultimately, changing their beliefs helped lead them to their own breakthroughs and finally to the NCAA tournament.

I bring this up today because at that discussion, many of us had a bit of a breakthrough by realizing that running a business is not really much different than anything else we do in our lives, whether it's playing or coaching sports to raising children. For example, if you feel you've been successful in any particular aspect of your life, reflect upon what's made you successful. Maybe it was passion, understanding or determination. Then apply that to the other aspects of your life and notice the results. Take a look at how your home life, work life, social life is, and see if there's a common theme. Are you happy with the result? If not, maybe it's time you change some of your own beliefs. Part of balancing your professional life and your personal life is to focus on the core element, which is YOU. Coach yourself to success!
