To Each Their Own

To Each Their Own

"If nothing changes - nothing changes."
- Jim Westley

I was reading my trusty quote book this weekend and when I read the quote above, I had two different thoughts go through my head. The first thought was that I've talked a lot about change and the positive impact it can have on one's life. My second thought, however, was that change isn't necessarily what we all want or need, and often times change in one aspect of our life, may lead to changes that we didn't want in other parts of our life. Most of my blogs are inspired by my own real life experiences, but luckily in this case, I'm not speaking from experience. I've been fortunate that most aspects of my life have had significant change and I've had a very positive outcome in all cases.

I write this blog not only for my own benefit, but also in hopes that it will benefit others that choose to read them. While I would hope that most readers would understand that blogs are really a form of opinion articles given from the point of view of the author, I feel it's necessary to make the point that what works for me, isn't always what works for everyone else. With that being said, sometimes it may be better that nothing changes at all.

No matter how you look at it, the real test here is knowing what you want. Each of us is different, and has a different focus on different things in life. Additionally, we all have different challenges and sets of circumstances that we're working with. Regardless of that, if we don't have goals, then we can't achieve them. This concept applies in your personal and professional life. Are you happy with what you've accomplished professionally - with the position you hold, are you making enough money to get the things you need, the environment you work in, etc.? How about personally - are you able to provide security and stability for your family, do you have sources of entertainment from hobbies or friends, are you able to keep a positive outlook on life in general? As I mentioned, we may not all be striving for the same things, but it's important for you to make your own list of what's important and decide whether you want to change them, or don't want to change them.
