BannerBeat: Create & Modify Blog Categories

Blog categories are groups of related entries that are displayed together in a blog listing. All entries must belong to a category. BannerBeat comes pre-installed with a Blog category which may be suitable for your needs, but if you wish to show multiple listings with different entries, you will need additional categories.

To Add a New Category:
While in the BannerBeat grip, click Categories > Add New in the top navigation, or click the Add New Category icon on the BannerBeat dashboard's All Options tab. See Category Settings below.

To Modify an Existing Category:
While in the BannerBeat grip, click Categories > Manage in the top navigation, or click the Manage Categories icon on the BannerBeat dashboard's All Options tab. Then locate the appropriate category from the list and click on the category name or Edit. See Category Settings below.

Category Settings

  • Name: Give the category a descriptive name to distinguish what types of entries the category will contain.
  • Description/Summary: Give the category a description to describe what types of entries the category will contain.
  • Display Page: Select the page you would like the full entry to display on.
  • Comment Options: Make choices about different comment options, including the Require Admin Approval of Comments option.
  • Has Action Date: Choose Yes if the entries will have an action date.
  • RSS Feed Url: The url for the RSS feed of the blog.
  • In RSS feed, output full blog: Check this box if you would like the full blog entry to be displayed in the RSS feed, instead of the entry summary.

Advanced Options

  • Default Author: Enter a name to give each entry the same author. If the author is different for a specific entry, fill in the Custom Author field on that entry.
  • Default Author Link: Enter a url to give each entry the same author link. If the author link is different for a specific entry, fill in the Custom Author Link field on that entry.
  • Default Picture: Choose a picture from the media library to give each entry the same picture. If the picture is different for a specific entry, choose an image for the Custom Picture on that entry.
